The Communications Security Establishment (CSE) is one of Canada’s key security and intelligence organizations. We work tirelessly to protect Canada and Canadians against threats by providing valuable foreign signals intelligence. We also develop and provide sophisticated and advanced cyber security services to protect Canada’s most important systems and information. As an Indigenous person working in the Federal Government and uncomfortable with her identity due to comments made by colleagues, I did not speak of it. Shortly after I got to CSE, the group I joined made me feel comfortable and I began to let go of some fears. I was made to feel like I was part of something, not just a person who looked after administrative processes but that I was an integral part of the group. I enjoyed coming to work and being with my group so much that I was able to get grounded and grow. I began to open up. People found it interesting when they came to know that I was Algonquin. That gave me a sense of belonging. Here I am twelve years later, still feeling included and still growing.
Equity, diversity and inclusion
Diversity and inclusion provide different outlooks and ideas that are essential to the challenging work we do. At CSE, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive work environment to attract, develop and leverage the talents of our employees. We recognize the need for openness and inclusivity and have established committees and sub-committees to support our various communities such as LGBTQ2+ and women in STEM. We have also created positive space training for CSE employees and managers.
