- Nicole Smith from Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba.

As an early signatory to Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord in 2017, Canada Life pledged a shared commitment to the journey and reconciliation through building new initiatives, partnerships, and advancing reconciliation efforts with Indigenous Peoples. Today, we are proud to share a few of our commitments through Canada Life’s Stronger Communities Together™ corporate giving framework.

Water First – we’ve partnered with Water First to support the Indigenous School Water Program to create opportunities for more than 2000 Indigenous students (K-12) in western Canada First Nation communities to have an active role in their community’s water protection and management.

Canada Life has announced a partnership with Red River College Polytech to launch their brand new Indigenous-led student mentorship program. The Circle of Friends Indigenous Student Mentorship Program will provide guidance to Indigenous learners as they navigate post-secondary experiences into early weeks of employment.

Taking IT Global – Connected North Well-Being Fund supported by Canada Life – we’ve renewed our longstanding partnership, assisting the creation and delivery of a program to address unique challenges facing remote and northern communities by supporting supplies and web-based learning activities needed to strengthen well-being across students, teachers, and content providers – available to over 150 schools served by Connected North.

Canada Life has proudly been a long-time supporter of Indspire, a national Indigenous-led registered charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis students for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada. Canada Life Building Brighter Future program provides 22 awards & bursaries annually across Canada.

Canada Life offers a broad horizon of possibilities. My favorite part of my work here is participating in our DEI employee resources groups, enabling me to be a social justice activist and having a real impact on the experience of my BIPOC colleagues and the culture overall. I have assisted in bringing in famous Indigenous speakers, authors, filmmakers to speak to our employees; and have been in consultation to build a smudge room in our Winnipeg office. We are encouraged to bring our authentic selves to the conversation and our perspectives are valued and considered. Your contributions are recognized and encouraged.
